Artist Spotlight: James Riehl

Artist Spotlight: James Riehl

Hey there, Brittany here!

Mark and I were getting ready to launch our first Kickstarter and noticed all the successful Comics all had sexy covers. Well....there is nothing Sexy about So-Called Living but what if there was? Mark and I are big fans of Cosplay at events, we don't cosplay ourselves but we have an appreciation for the art of Cosplay and how much work people put into their outfits. If you are new to the Cosplay world, feel free to check out some of Mark's social media accounts; he has posted hundreds of photos over the years from events like Fan Expo, celebrating the Cosplay culture. Our Cosplay series is our fun way of playing with What if? Jamie "James" Riehl was our first artist to help us achieve our goal of focusing on a small moment in So-Called Living and making it a little more sexy. Not only did Jamie make a sexy cover, he also put a few hidden bunnies throughout the cover.

Fun Fact, We also brought Jamie back to do our first-ever spread covers for books 5 & 6 in the Elite Series. These books will be published mid-2026.

Who is James Riehl?

James Riehl is an accomplished illustrator whose work is known for dynamic composition and a bold sense of style. His artistic and versatile approach brings energy and personality.

Why James Fits the Cosplay Series

James’ Cosplay cover for Book 2 for So-Called Living captures character charm, visual impact and hidden bunnies for fun, making it playful as well as making it a collector’s piece that stands out from standard variants. Limited to 300 copies, it’s designed for fans who love daring, playful, and high-quality artwork.

Why James Riehl Is Perfect for Books 5 & 6  Elite Series

James Riehl's style is great for the Elite Series first spread covers of So-Called Living Books 5 & 6. Known for his dynamic composition, bold energy, and cinematic style, James brings characters and scenes to life in a way that immediately draws readers into the story.

The first cover spread sets the tone for the issues, and James’s skill in visual storytelling, mood, and action ensures each cover is both striking and memorable. Limited to 500 copies, these Elite Series covers are not just collectible—they’re must-have pieces of comic art that capture the humour, tension, and supernatural adventure of So-Called Living.
